Christmas Tree Safety
Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy. Sensible precautions with your Christmas tree can help your family have a happy and safe holiday season. Here are 5 tips for Christmas tree safety:
1. Never expose your tree to an open flame. Lighted candles can be a nice decorative touch, but they can pose an extreme fire hazard.
2. Always make sure that live trees have plenty of water to prevent drying.
3. Place live trees away from fireplaces, portable stoves, radiators, and other heat sources. Even television sets and other electrical appliances can prematurely dry out a live tree.
4. Check all Christmas lights and connections before using them to decorate your tree. Don’t use any electrical decorations with worn or frayed cords. Also, make sure that you don’t overload electrical outlets.
5. ALWAYS turn off electrical decorations before going to bed at night or before leaving the house.
